The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued a ruling letter in January 1966, that recognizes the Amateur Athletic Union of the US Inc. (AAU), and its Affiliated Organizations as tax-exempt under section 501(c)3 of the IRS code. The IRS stated that donors may deduct contributions to AAU and its Affiliated Organizations as provided in section 170 of the 1986 IRS Code (providing the taxpayer itemizes deductions). CJ Freedom is a non-profit subordinate of the AAU.
